Mr Dinendra Haria: Trustee

Mr Dinendra Haria's career in central Government spans 20 years in a wide variety of roles.  Dinendra started working as an admin officer in the Office of the Social Security Commissioners in 1988 and then moved onto what was then Knightsbridge Crown Court.  Here he worked in supporting Crown Court Judges during criminal cases - dealing with victims, witnesses and professionals such as lawyers, the police, Crown Prosecution service.  He also managed the introduction of a new case management system for all London Crown Courts.  Dinendra then moved to the Public Guardianship Office, now Office of Public Guardian and organisation responsible for looking after the finances of people who suffer from mental incapacity. As a caseworker there, he gained first hand experience of working closely with adults and children with mental illnesses and the sensitive issues that arise for carers. This also entailed working in the Chief Executive Private Office, dealing with the agency’s budget, HR issues and the monitoring organisation’s performance.    

Moving to the HQ at Ministry of Justice, Dinendra has been involved as a Stakeholder Manager and Youth Engagement Project, in a role that he is committed to making a positive difference for young people in and enjoying immensely.  He has successfully project managed a number of portfolio of projects across the country aimed at increasing voter registration, voting rates and participation in democratic activities. These included “Your Voice Counts” Ministry of Justice’s first ever Youth Conference, Radiowaves HeadsUp, Big Ben and All That, National Youth Parliament Competition, BME Outreach projects. The Your Voice Counts, Youth Conference Work has involved setting up process for public, private and voluntary sector organisations to bid for funding for projects which help meet Government objectives and then ensuring project deliverables are achieved through effective contract management. 

As well as the UK Youth Parliament, Dinendra has also been developing contacts with groups such as Muslim Youth Net, organisation representing Youth Group and BME communities to help increase aware of democratic process. He has set up a range of opportunities for Ministers to meet with young people from all backgrounds and to hear their view on citizenship, democracy and what more Government can do to appeal to young people.
