Mr Lewis Parle: Head of Youth Programmes and Research

Lewis manages IARS' youth led projects and its team of young researchers, both paid and voluntary. He has been with IARS since December 2006 as a volunteer, consultant and now part time employee and has worked on a number of projects and publications including: The homophobic bullying and human rights project for which he received a Millennium Volunteers for investing over 200 voluntary hours into the project, the Youth Empowerment Project, the Restoring Relationship project, the EQUAL funded BAME homelessness project, The Equality and Human Rights Commission funded research project on the community cohesion dimension of human rights, and made a contribution to Director Theo Gavrielide's new book on the theory and practice of restorative justice.  His interests lie with criminal and human rights law within the UK, broadening diversity in the legal professions, and the encouragement of 'active citizenship' in young people.

He is currently studying to become a barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law after having completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Manchester in 2007 and receiving a scholarship from the honourable society of Middle Temple. He graduated with a 2:1 Ba (Hons) in History from the University of Liverpool in 2005 studying the economic and social history of the UK. He also completed a Masters in Historical and Sociological Research from the University of Liverpool in 2006 and received a distinction for his dissertation on policing and the infringement of civil liberties in 1970s Manchester.
