In the current social and economic climate where young people are pushed in the margins of society, IARS won Erasmus + (KA3) funding to continue its user-led and youth focused policy work, enabling thousands of young people across the UK and Europe to voice their real issues to decision-makers, and drive change from the bottom up.
Following the successful completion of IARS' multi-year funding from the Youth in Action 4.1, the Erasmus+ programme will allow the charity to create hundreds of volunteering and training opportunities for young people across Europe and the UK. These will aim to reconnect young people with democratic processes and institutions at local, national and European level.
Sarah Champion MP said: “It is fantastic to hear that IARS have received another year of funding for their youth programmes. I have seen this work first hand, and it is a real inspiration to see young people at the heart of policy and campaigning. In today’s society where youth unemployment is high, student loans are being sold off, and funding is being cut to colleges, it is more important than ever that young people have organisations like IARS helping get their voice heard.”
Under the auspices of Erasmus+, a range of youth opportunities both face to face and online will be created to equip young people. IARS programme is focused on those who are politically marginalized and disengaged with a view to trigger and increase their participation levels.
Furthermore, cross-country and cross-cultural youth debates through IARS' 99% youth-led Campaign, will be encouraged allowing young people to better understand themselves and each other, and seek solutions cooperatively.
Dr. Theo Gavrielides, IARS Founder and Director, said: "In the UK, we have much to learn about working in partnership with others and indeed accept that our young people are part of a wider EU family founded upon the values of democracy and equality. I am calling on all youth focused organisations to join us and our young people in bringing change from the bottom up".
The IARS Erasmus + (KA3) programme offers to all young people pan-European free activities such as visits and exchanges abroad, events, the IARS Research and Youth Leaderships Awards, delivering international speeches, getting involved in IARS' governance through the Youth Advisory Board, engaging with the media, online blogs, volunteering and accredited internships and training.
