The IARS International Institute is pleased to offer a free half-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited course entitled “Care2Work: Empowering Professionals to work with Black and Minority Ethnic Young Carers”. The training event will take place on Thursday 6th October – 1pm in Central London (venue tbc).

  • Objectives

    At this half a day, interactive session participants will have the opportunity to explore skills and competences that young BAME carers gain through their experiences of caring and identify ways of supporting them to enhance and transfer those skills into other areas of their lives such as to employment.

     The course aims to;

    • Create knowledge and raise awareness of the needs and realities of young Black and Minority Ethnic carers in the UK and Europe.
    • Provide professionals and agencies with tools and additional resources including training guides that can be directly applied to their work with young carers.
    • Practice learning with realistic case studies, establishing a sense of  practical application to what has been learnt.
    • Discuss and exchange best practices from across Europe.

  • Background

    The content of this accredited online course is built on the findings of in depth youth-led qualitative research with young carers and professionals in 4 European countries (UK, Sweden, Italy and Greece) that was conducted in the framework of the 2-year Erasmus+ funded project entitled Care2Work.

    The course is suitable for professionals working directly with young carers including teachers, social workers, youth workers, teaching assistants, social care professionals, etc.

  • Accreditation & Certification

    The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines (30 CPD learning points).

  • The full training package includes
    • Half a day face-to-face training.
    • Training manual and accompanying documents.
    • E-copy of the pan-European report entitled“Young Black and Minority Ethnic Carers”: Barriers and Opportunities for Employment and Education”  .
    • Personal reflection and group discussion in response to case studies.
    • CPD Certification (30 credits).
    • Priority tickets to national and international events and seminars organised by the partnership.

    Professor Dr. Theo Gavrielides is the course leader responsible for the training.
