IARS have submitted their response to the Ministry of Justice's consultation into the Public Bodies Bill. The consultation document sets out the Government's intentions to reform the public bodies that make up the Ministry Reform. Among the proposals included in the consultion is the abolition of the Youth Justice Board.
IARS' response focuses on the consequences of moving the functions of the Youth Justice Board to the Ministry of Justice. In particular, it highlights concerns around the loss of focus on the distinct and separate needs of children and young people who find themselves caught up in the criminal justice system, as well as the need to protect the knowledge and expertise of the Youth Justice Board.
