Rosa Heimer is the Equalities Project Coordinator at IARS. In this position Rosa coordinates various UK and EU wide projects in the intersecting areas of gender, migration and LGBTI refugees which ultimately aim at supporting and empowering migrant and refugee women as well as LBGTI refugees.
Rosa is an intersectional feminist passionate about fighting for social justice and gender equality. Outside of work she has been involved in grassroots campaigning and organising around migrants’ rights and domestic violence services.
Before joining IARS Rosa gained considerable professional experience in equality research and policy at the EU level; having previously worked for the European Institute for Gender Equality. At EIGE she worked within the Gender Mainstreaming Team, contributing to the development of three main research projects: the Gender Mainstreaming Platform; the Economic Benefits of Gender Equality; and Gender Budgeting in the EU. Previous to that, Rosa worked as an Associate Researcher at KPMG UK and Women's Empowerment Project Coordinator at EduCARE India.
Currently, she also works part-time as a Knowledge Officer at the Latin American Women’s Aid, an organisation providing services to support and empower Latin American and BME women, especially those experiencing or at risk of domestic violence. At LAWA, Rosa manages the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning system of the organisation as well as support the management of projects and reporting to funders.
Rosa holds a BSc degree in Social Sciences (with a focus on Sociology, Political Science and Anthropology) by the Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil, and a MSc in Gender, Policy and Inequalities by the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. She is a native Portuguese speaker and is fluent in both Spanish and English.
