Biography
Ashley is a volunteer intern for IARS. Ashley is a Canadian student partaking in this internship for academic credit at the University of Regina, Canada. Upon the completion of this internship, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Justice.
Ashley completed a prior internship with the Regina crown prosecutor’s office in 2009 in order to gain knowledge of the Canadian court system. This practicum also allowed Ashley to gain a greater understanding of the criminal justice system as she spent time in numerous other justice settings, including youth custody centres, alternative measures programmes and probation offices. She plans to attend law school in the future, specialising in human rights law. Her main focus is addressing human rights violations against women, particularly sex trafficking.
In 2010, Ashley received a $10,000 research grant, the McDougall Gauley Undergraduate Fellowship in Police and Justice Studies. She acted as the principal researcher on a project exploring ways in which homeless, previously incarcerated women may influence policy directly impacting their lives.
