Marta Cooper: Youth Voice Editor

Marta graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in History from the School of Oriental and African Studies in July 2008 and in September will begin a double Master’s degree in Global Media and Communications at the London School of Economics, with the second year spent at the School of Journalism at Fudan University in Shanghai.

Besides contributing to and being editor of the Youth Voice Journal, Marta has worked at the Migrant and Refugee Communities Forum in west London since March 2008 and has also contributed to openDemocracy, where she spent the summer as a publishing intern.

Marta is particularly interested in issues of nationalism and identity, ethnic conflict, the relationship between global media and democracy, securing the rights of refugees and also the futures of both Italy and Britain in terms of immigration, national identity, community cohesion and improving services available to support marginalised communities. Marta would like to pursue a journalism career whilst gaining a wider experience of policy work in order to combine the two in the future.
