Our Equalities Projects Intern, Laura Leonard, is completing her internship at IARS and off to new adventures, here is what she has to say about her internship:
"My time at IARS has been a brilliant opportunity to gain valuable experience of supporting a project that I feel passionate about - women’s rights. From my first day I had the choice of working on projects and activities that I was most interested in and given real responsibility and input- a refreshing experience for a volunteering role!
Largely I have been helping to coordinate activities for and create resources for the Women’s Advisory Board (WAB), including: brainstorming ideas for training sessions, doing research and collecting data about immigration policy in the UK, organising the WAB’s monthly meeting and creating a database of MPs who advocate for refugee rights. I hope that the WAB can use this information to achieve their group goals, which include visiting parliament, creating a signpost service and setting up training sessions for new members.
I have really enjoyed working at IARS and getting involved in the wide variety of activities going on in the office. You are treated like a valuable member of the team and given the chance to develop the skills and experiences that you personally want to develop, whilst making a real contribution to the work of the organisation."
We were lucky to have such a committed intern and wish Laura all the best in her future endeavors!
