Young Women in the Criminal Justice System Project: Call for research participants in Hackney and Tower Hamlets
IARS is carrying out a youth-led research investigation into the experiences of young women in the criminal justice system. We are looking for young women aged between 16 – 25 who have been in contact with the criminal justice system in Hackney or Tower Hamlets to participate.
What is the purpose of the research?
It has been highlighted that women in the criminal justice system have multiple and complex needs. The project aims to identify the experiences of young women (16-25) when they come into contact with the police at custody level. We want to investigate young women’s needs at the time of their first contact with the criminal justice system and whether, and if applicable how, these needs are met.
What would participation in the research involve ?
Research participants will talk to one of our research volunteers. These are young women who have been trained to carry out interviews. The interview will last for a maximum of an hour and all information provided will remain confidential.
Our research findings will enable us to provide recommendations to key stakeholders about how support services to young women in the criminal justice system could be improved.
The travel expenses of all research participants will be reimbursed.
