A VICTIM-LED CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM?
The IARS Annual Conference 2014 is titled “A victim-led criminal justice system?”, and will take place between 19-20th November at the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, with an evening reception to follow. Click here for the official programme.
Following fierce campaigning by victims’ groups, the European Union has entered into a process of legislative and policy reforms with the aim of repositioning the victim in criminal proceedings. By November 2015, EU member states will need to have demonstrated that they have modified their domestic laws to give effect to the Directive 2012/29/EU establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime. Findings will be presented from IARS Restorative Justice in Europe: Safeguarding Victims & Empowering Professionals, as well as cutting edge research from around the world.
The conference is partly funded by the European Commission (EC Grant Agreement JUST/2011-2012/JPEN/AG/2951) through the Restorative Justice in Europe project.
